CALAMUS ROOT PURE ESSENTIAL OIL    

Acorus calamus

Calamus inhabits marshes and has strappy green leaves and yellow cone flowers. Its pungent roots are harvested, and steam distilled to make a warm sweet, soft, woody pure essential oil with clove-type notes. It is an excellent aromatic stimulant and tonic. Calamus stimulates appetite, calms ulcers, gas, upset stomach, colic, arthritis, headache, improves cognitive ability, memory, hemorrhoids, and skin ailments.

It has antioxidant, hypotensive, antibacterial, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, anti-depressant, acetylcholinesterase inhibitory, anxiolytic, hypolipidemic, antispasmodic, antidiarrheal, stomachic, tonic actions. While whole Calamus root is edible, the essential oil causes seizures and delirium if ingested.

Calamus has circulation strengthening actions to calm rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatism and arthritis.

It is an expectorant, bronchodilator, and spasmolytic that unclogs mucous and phlegm from the respiratory tracts for bronchitis, and colds.

Calming stimulant actions are excellent for the brain and nervous system, calming nervous spasmodic ailments.   

Calamus is an insect repellent that repels mosquitoes.
