Calendula officinalis

Calendula is a bright perennial flowering plant with golden yellow and orange flowers that is grown in temperate climates for an essential oil that is an excellent therapeutic skin balm. The flower petals are steam distilled to make a pungent, earthy, floral oil that is non-toxic and stunning for just about any skin ailment.

The merits of this oil

Most essential oils are extremely strong for the delicate skin of infants and children, yet Calendula is the exception when diluted. It is very effective for nappy rash from the age of one. A golden rule for children and essential oils – dilute them well with a mild oil such as Sweet Almond and don’t use essential oils near their faces or noses. 

Calendula is a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant oil that accelerates healing to insect bites, bruises, and sores. Its effectiveness is attributed to its excellent anti-inflammatory substances and strong antioxidants.

An excellent oil for mild scalds with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-viral substances to calm the blisters of a scald. Calendula rejuvenates skin and prevents infection.

For joint pain, blend a couple of drops in a dash of Sweet Almond Oil and massage your sore joints to rapidly calm the pain of arthritis and gout.
