KAPOK SEED OIL

Ceiba pentandra

The Kapok or Ceiba is an enormous, tall tree that grows in tropical rainforests. It has while flowers that produce edible seeds followed by seed pods that grow in drooping clusters. The seed pods burst when mature with the whitish silken fiber emerging to be dispersed through the rainforest. It makes a yellow oil with a mild flavour when cold pressed from the seeds.

The merits of this oil

Kapok Seed is an antioxidant, anti-ageing oil for skin beauty, rheumatism, and soap making.

It has anti-inflammatory actions to calm the pain of sore joints, and rheumatism.

This nourishing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory is excellent for skin beauty.

The anti-bacterial actions disinfect sores.

It is rich in fatty acids that make it an excellent ingredient in soap making.

It is an edible vegetable oil that produces a green eco-fuel.

The white flocculent seeds are covered with a waterproof oil that makes them drift on water. The silken seeds make wadded waterproof lifejackets.

The main fatty acids are palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, sterculic and behenic

Palmitic acid is an emollient moisturiser with skin cleansing, anti-inflammatory actions. It softens hair and smoothes the surface of hair.

Stearic acid softens and smoothens the skin’s surface to make a natural protective skin barrier. It is a surfactant and emulsifier that improves the texture of salves, lotions and moisturisers. In hair products, stearic acid coats the hair shaft to protect and moisturise without making hair dull or weighted down.

Oleic acid is excellent for dry or ageing skin. It saturates and seals moisture into skin. Oleic acid improves fine lines and wrinkles on skin.  This anti-inflammatory fatty acid restores the oil in your skin without clogging pores. Oleic acid moisturises hair and makes hair softer.

Linoleic acid moisturises skin and improves elasticity. It strengthens your skin barrier to protect from UV light and air pollutants that cause wrinkles and ageing skin. Linoleic acid improves hair growth, moisture, and a healthy scalp.

Behenic acid forms a protective skin barrier against the environment that improves skin quality. It has emollient, soothing actions to restore the natural oils in your skin and improves hydration. Behenic acid gives hair moisturisers a hair smoothing quality.
